RIP, George

George Carlin was probably the first comic I was aware of, back in the early Seventies. I collected his albums through high school and while I never saw him live, I always loved his HBO specials. He’d grown bitter later in life — much darker than earlier in his career — but was still relevant. His death yesterday leaves a big hole that can’t be filled. Rest in peace, Mr. Carlin.

In this video clip, he goes to town on liberals who are trying to save the planet. George could hit both sides of the political debate and did so when he felt it was necessary.

The First Recording?

This is very cool — from 1860, using a phonautograph.

It’s a French woman singing, “Au clair de la lune, Pierrot repondit” (”By the light of the moon, Pierrot replied”)

Now, the quality isn’t great, but the reason why is because of how it was recorded and restored. Go here for more information.

Want to be scared?

Watch this Tom Cruise/Scientology video. As Gawker says, if the Oprah show was an 8 on the scary scale, this rates as a 10.

He is a fucking whackjob.
