Greg Spawton, one of the primary forces within the band Big Big Train has written a guest blog post for the British National Railway Museum, explaining the inspiration for the song East Coast Racer from their recent release, English Electric (Part Two). There’s a link to the fifteen minute prog epic at the bottom of the post, too.
One of the things I love about Big Big Train is that their lyrics often delve into the history of the industrial revolution and of the people and places and events that lived or occurred during that time. That they’re a fantastic band is even better.
Give the post a read, as Greg talks about the locomotive that inspired the song, and then give the song a play. It’s lush and full of all the wonderful goodness that Seventies prog exhibited, but with modern sensibilities.
